About Me

Hi everyone! I am Alexia Cruz and I’m from Commerce, GA. I’m a proud first generation Mexican-American. My identity has shaped many aspects of my life from my inner circle, my family oriented mindset, and to my interests in research.

School takes up a lot of my time, but when it’s not, I am the biggest travel bug! My most recent trip was to Paris back in October and in May, I will be going to Barcelona! I also enjoy concerts, scrapbooking, and I have rediscovered found love for reading! My favorite read this year has been “Everything is Tuberculosis: The History and Persistence of Our Deadliest Infection” by John Green.

I currently work as a Pharmacy Technician at my local Ingles and will complete four years with the company this summer! This job has molded the trajectory of my academic and professional career. Working at the pharmacy unlocked my love for supporting communities, even in indirect ways. When I’m not at the pharmacy, I do photography for pleasure and as an occasional side hustle.

Education

I graduated from Commerce High School in 2022 and did a semester at the University of North Georgia. From there, I started at the University of Georgia in the Spring of 2023. Like many first-generation students, my transition to a large university was challenging, but I could not imagine doing my undergrad anywhere else!

I’m set to graduate from the UGA this Summer after my internship. After that, I will start my Masters in Public Health at Emory University in the fall! It’s an honor to join a leading school in Public Health and I’m excited to see where this new chapter takes me!
